MATCHING GIFTS: Double the impact of your gift! Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match charitable contributions made by their employees. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, contact your benefits director. If your company is eligible, request a matching gift form from your employer and send the completed, signed form with your gift to Hope Haven. We will do the rest. The impact of your gift to our organization may be doubled or possibly tripled. Some companies also match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.

Want to make a specific donation? Hope Haven can always use
Join Hope Haven’s “Legacy of Hope” by remembering Hope Haven in your will. Preparing a will is the best way to ensure that your possessions and property go where you wish. Some donors find that the best way they can ensure that their wishes are carried through is by making a bequest in their will to causes they believe in. There are different kinds of bequest, but with each, the entire value of the bequest is eligible for an estate tax charitable deduction. As with other charitable gifts, you can direct how your bequest is used, targeting your gift to a specific cause or program, or making an unrestricted bequest.
If you decide to make a bequest, share your plan with your attorney and financial advisors, who will draft appropriate language for your will and help structure the gift effectively.
Benefits of a bequest:
• Bequests are not payable until death, so it does not affect your assets or cash flow during your lifetime.
• You can modify your bequests at any time if your circumstance changes.
• Charitable gifts made through your will are free of estate tax.
• A charitable bequest may place your estate in a lower estate tax bracket
Types of Bequest and Sample Language:
An Unrestricted Gift- This specifies the type of gift, whether it is money, property, a life insurance policy or stocks and shares used where the need is greatest. Example: I give to Hope Haven, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, located in DeKalb, IL the sum of $______ for its general purposes.
Residual Gifts- Once you have ensured that all family members and beneficiaries have been included, a ‘Residual’ Bequest will ensure the remainder of your Estate is distributed to your chosen community charity or organization. Example: All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, I give to Hope Haven, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, located in DeKalb, IL for its general purposes.
A Gift for Specific Purpose- A gift that is used for a specific purpose or program, fund or endowment. Example: I give Hope Haven, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, located in DeKalb, IL the sum of $______ to be used for ______________ (state purpose).
A Contingency Gift- Takes effect only if a primary intention can’t be met. Example: If (name of beneficiary) does not survive me, or shall die during the administration of my estate, or as a result of a common disaster, then I give Hope Haven, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, located in DeKalb, IL all of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, to be used for its general purposes.
A Percentage or Fractional Bequest- this is expressed as either a percentage or a fraction of your estate. Rather than leaving a sum certain for the gifts described above, you can include language that refers to a percentage of your estate or a description of the property you wish to give.
